What is Flax Oil
Are you looking for a seed oil that can take your health and well-being to the next level? If so, look no further than flaxseed oil!
Flaxseed oil – also known as linseed oil – is a golden oil extracted from ground flax seeds of the Linum usitatissimum plant. Flax seeds are a well-known vegan and vegetarian source of essential polyunsaturated omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. They contain omega-3 fatty acids in the form of vegetarian alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), making them the richest plant-based source of healthy omega-3s.
Benefits of Flax Oil
- Vegan and vegetarian source of omega-3 fatty acids
- Powerful natural anti-inflammatory
- Supports heart health
- Promotes healthy, hydrated, glowing skin
- Encourages healthy digestive function and elimination
- May regulate hormone levels and reduce menopausal symptoms
How it Works
Flaxseed oil promotes health and wellness by providing the body with a high dose of essential omega-3 fatty acids. ALA in flaxseed oil is converted into the active fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) that are essential for optimal health.
Unfortunately, modern diets tend to be low in omega-3s and high in omega-6 fatty acids. Plus, vegans and vegetarians are at risk for omega-3 deficiency as they don't eat seafood. Flaxseed oil helps to correct this imbalance as it contains a higher omega-3 to omega-6 ratio – just 1 tablespoon daily can make a huge difference to your health!
These fatty acids play a key role in regulating inflammation in the body. A 2016 meta-analysis published in Nutrients found that flaxseed oil significantly reduced C-reactive protein (CRP) levels – a marker of inflammation – in obese people.
A source of anti-inflammatory omega-3s, flaxseed oil is a heart-protective oil. Its anti-inflammatory properties may reduce markers of heart disease and support a healthy cardiovascular system. It protects heart health by significantly lowering blood pressure as well as levels of the dangerous small dense low-density lipoprotein (sd-LDL) cholesterol.
ALA-rich flaxseed oil supports a healthy skin barrier that's hydrated and glowing! Clinical studies have found that ingesting flaxseed oil improves skin hydration and smoothness and reduces skin sensitivity and roughness.
Flaxseed oil has been used in traditional medicine to support efficient elimination by lubricating the digestive tract. Research now confirms that regularly consuming this oil improves digestive function and reduces constipation.
Additionally, flaxseed oil may balance hormone levels in menopausal women. A 2015 study found that consuming flaxseed oil for 3 months decreased symptoms of hot flashes and improved quality of life.
