What is Turmeric
Turmeric root, from the Curcuma longa plant, is a bright yellow spice native to Southeast Asia. Known as the "golden root", turmeric is dried and ground into a powder for use in Asian cuisine. It has also been used for thousands of years in traditional Ayurvedic Medicine to reduce infection, soothe inflammation, support digestion, boost immunity, and heal wounds.
Now, many studies have confirmed turmeric’s amazing health properties are largely due to its content of active compounds called curcuminoids.

How it Works
Turmeric root supports wellness by providing your body with health-boosting active compounds. Its primary bioactive ingredient is the polyphenol curcumin, a powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial compound.
It promotes well-being and creates balance in your body by protecting your cells and DNA from the damaging effects of free radicals from the environment. Not only does curcumin act as an antioxidant, but it also stimulates the activity of your body’s own antioxidant enzymes. It's ideal for reducing chronic inflammation and slowing the signs of aging.
Turmeric is one of the most well-known and popular herbal supplements for relieving joint pain and improving stiffness and physical mobility in people with degenerative osteoarthritis. Studies have found that turmeric extract provides similar results when compared with ibuprofen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs) medication in patients with osteoarthritis in the knee.
Turmeric extract may also be effective for promoting good mental health. Research suggests it boosts mood by enhancing levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein involved in the growth and maintenance of nerve cells in areas of the brain that control cognitive function and emotions.
Additionally, the powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric extract may reduce the risk and progression of heart disease by neutralizing its precursors – oxidative damage and inflammation! Research suggests curcuminoids protect the endothelium, the delicate membrane that lines the heart and blood vessels. A healthy endothelial lining helps regulate blood pressure and clotting, among many other functions.
